  • A: Training is a process, not a quick fix. Your dog will make progress every week, but long-term results depend on your consistency at home. Our job is to coach both you and your dog together, ensuring results are sustainable even after the program ends.

  • A: Progress may slow down, but don’t worry, we’ll help you reset and get back on track. The most important thing is your honesty and commitment to continuing the training.

  • A: We understand life happens! Please provide at least 24 hours’ notice for rescheduling. If less than 24 hours’ notice is given, the session will be counted as used (-1) unless it’s an emergency, which we absolutely understand.

  • A: Only if everyone is on the same page. We’ll guide you and your family members to learn the commands, energy, and consistency needed, so your dog doesn’t receive mixed messages.

  • A: We love when owners are engaged! Feel free to reach out via WhatsApp or text if something comes up. We’re here to support you throughout the journey, not just during the sessions.

  • A: Training one dog can benefit the entire household, as a well-trained dog often becomes calmer, more structured, and responsive, positively influencing the others. However, if your other dogs have behavioral issues, they may disrupt progress if not properly managed. We’ll provide tips to maintain boundaries and structure with all dogs, and if needed, we can assess the group dynamic and suggest next steps.

  • A: Yes. We encourage all household members to participate so everyone learns consistent commands, energy, and handling techniques essential for your dog to respond reliably.

  • A: Yes, you can request a specific trainer. However, we cannot guarantee your preferred trainer due to scheduling and availability. We’ll do our best to accommodate your request while ensuring the session fits within the trainer’s schedule and your dog’s needs.

  • A: Yes, you can request Dave. However, his waiting list is longer due to high demand. We’ll do our best to schedule sessions with him, but availability may require some flexibility.

  • A: Aggression rehabilitation requires controlled, safe environments and specialized equipment that isn’t always available in a typical home setting. For the safety of your dog, our trainers, and others in the household, we conduct aggression rehab at our facility where we can fully manage interactions, monitor behavior, and intervene if necessary.

  • A: We offer consultations and assessments to help you choose the most suitable program for your dog or your career goals as a trainer.

  • A: Students must be 15 years old or older to enroll, as some handling and training techniques require physical capability and responsibility.

  • A: For Level 1, students are expected to finish within 1 year of their enrollment date. For Level 2 and Level 3, there is no fixed duration, unlike Level 1 and other traditional programs. Most students complete these levels within 6–9 months. Our approach focuses on continuous growth and lifelong learning, and once you join, you’re a member for life. This allows you to learn at your own pace, revisit sessions, and continue developing your skills over time.

  • A: Yes. Our program is designed to be flexible, and part-time attendance may be possible depending on your course and schedule. Speak with our admissions team for specific details.

  • A: No, you do not need to bring your own dog. DTA provides a variety of dogs for hands-on practice during the program. If you choose to bring your own dog for specialized sessions, please discuss it with your mentor first to ensure it aligns with the training plan.

  • A: Our focus at DTA is on household dogs and behavior issues, such as obedience and behavior modification. We don’t specialize in dog sports like IGP or agility, but the skills you learn provide a solid foundation for any type of dog training. If you’re interested in dog sports for personal growth or as a hobby, we can guide you on integrating obedience and behavioral foundations into your pursuits.

  • A: Some theory components may be offered online, but practical sessions must be completed in person to ensure proper technique, safety, and supervision.

  • A: Yes. Some modules include assignments or tasks designed to reinforce what you’ve learned and provide hands-on practice between classes. In addition, there will be quizzes and midterms to help track your progress.

  • Your student instructors provide regular feedback, assessments, and progress reports, and you can track your own learning through assignments, quizzes, and practical exercises.

  • A: Students receive a certificate of completion for each level completed, recognized by our academy. This demonstrates your knowledge, skills, and readiness to apply training professionally or personally.

  • A: Yes! Our internship program is an optional, hands-on experience designed for students who want to gain real-world exposure to dog training, boarding, and behavior management.

    What You’ll Gain:

    • Direct mentorship from Dave Teoh and student intructors
    • Participation in real training sessions, house calls, and boarding programs.
    • Practical experience handling dogs of all breeds, ages, and temperaments.
    • Preparation for a professional career in dog training or related fields.

    Who Can Apply:

    • Students currently enrolled in the Dog Trainer Academy.
    • Open to individuals seeking career experience in professional dog services.
    • Prior experience is not required; enthusiasm, commitment, and a love for dogs are most important.
  • A: While we cannot guarantee job placement, we offer career support, including networking opportunities, job listings, and guidance on how to market your skills to potential employers.

  • A: Yes. Safety is always our top priority, but working with aggressive or reactive dogs does carry a risk of being bitten. We’ll provide you with the right safety protocols, equipment, and close supervision, but incidents can still happen especially if instructions are ignored.

It’s important to understand that this course is hands-on and requires strict adherence to your mentor’s guidance. Our instructors will never put you in a situation you’re not ready for. Our student intructors will never put you in a situation you are not ready for. By following protocols carefully, you can reduce the risk, but it cannot be completely eliminated.

Dog trainers have an increased risk of dog bites as an occupational hazard, and even if you’re not working with aggressive dogs, you’ll still probably experience some scratches or other minor injuries. Dog training can be a surprisingly physical job, so it’s something to be aware of.
